Gifts Wrapped in Glass: Day 15

Day 15 of Gifts Wrapped in Glass
Hope you are all still tagging along on this blogging journey! You will love today’s Gift, I dare you to make a batch to give away, you are guaranteed to want to try it for yourself!

Making your own bath salts is very simple. The secret ingredient is the organic essential oil. I love the Sweet Orange. I am hopelessly addicted to it.
The other ingredients are simple as well. You can use Epsom Salt (purchased from your local pharmacy  in the first aid supplies) or course Sea Salt. Both will work, I used half Epsom salt and half Sea Salt for this recipe.
I bought a bag of mini-oranges or tangelos and peeled them. Then I dried the peels in the oven at 250 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. I find that for some reason the smaller oranges have a more potent odor when dried. The peels will make your house smell amazing. Trust me on this.

After the peels were dry I pulverized them in the food processor until they were little pieces. I love the way the look mixed in with the salts. I used about 4 tablespoons crushed peels for 4 cups of salts.
The finishing touch is completely optional, I added a few drops of yellow food coloring to make the salts look more orange. I also added 6 drops of the orange essential oil and mixed it all together.
I packaged my salts in several different jars. I used two half pint jars, one wide mouth lower style, and the other a traditional jelly jar. I used a larger pint jar with a flip top for the remainder of the salts and added some pretty ribbon around the band of each jar.

I got out the labels I had made for my Mason Jar Candles, and used those for the top of the jars. You can download this label design for free here. These labels are Avery #22926.

The finished jars are ready for gift giving. Don’t be afraid to whip up a batch for the men in your life as well. My three teenage boys all wandered into the kitchen while I was making these bath salts wondering what smelled soooo good.
Come to think of it, I need to soak in the tub myself……
