So You Think Your Crafty Interview

DSS-button1

I have been asked to join the So You Think Your Crafty Challenge.

I am thrilled and excited for this new opportunity.

The So You Think Your Crafty Challenge will be 10 weeks of theme inspired projects done by 10 different bloggers.

Each week, you the reader, will get to vote on your favorite projects.

Each week, one blogger will be eliminated and “sent home”.

Sounds like fun does’t it? I am busy preparing for this new adventure. I added my new blog buttons to my sidebar, you will see one of them pictured above. My button will be pictured on the So You Think Your Crafty website during this challenge. Feel free to grab my button anytime!

My friend Tauni from the SNAP Conference is the brains behind this blogger challenge. Part of the fun is getting to know the other bloggers involved in the competition. I have decided to answer Tauni’s  interview questions here for all of your to read.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your blog.

I started my blog in 2009. I needed a new creative outlet. For years we had been renovating our home and we were trying to sell it right when the real-estate market crashed. I thought that if people could see how beautiful our house was on the inside, and learn the story behind it, it would sell. It didn’t sell, but I discovered that I really enjoyed blogging and sharing my creations, and have been doing it ever since.
When did you start crafting and what are your earliest memories about crafting?

I was always a creative kid. Other girls would spend hours playing with their dolls, I would spend hours making clothes for my dolls or building houses and furniture for them to live in. By the time I was 12, I had moved on to refinishing furniture, cooking and sewing my own clothes. I was fortunate to have other creative people around me for inspiration when I was growing up.
What is your favorite medium to work with?

I love to paint. I am addicted to it. There is nothing better than seeing just the right color on just the right object. Over the scope of 10 years I painted the 11 rooms in our house 33 times. Some women love to clean, I love to paint. It makes me happy and is far cheaper than therapy.

What is one craft or DIY skill you’d love to master?

I am working on learning to knit. I really enjoy it, but find that I loose concentration after a while and drop stitches. I loose count of stitches and mix up patterns all the time. Women who knit amaze me, I would love to master it someday.
What’s your number one favorite guilty pleasure?

My biggest guilty pleasure is soaking in a bubble bath with a glass of wine and some beautiful classical music. It relaxes me and helps me focus mentally.
What’s your favorite thing to do (other than crafting of course)?

We love spending time outdoors. During the summer we love to go for long walks. I have discovered that I also enjoy taking pictures of things I see on the way.
How do you stay organized?

I am not organized at all. I seem have “pockets” of organization. For example, I keep all  my blog supplies in a big china cabinet on our back porch, but that’s as far as it goes.  I tend to organize things by color or project, which makes complete sense to me but confuses everyone else.
What bloggers (max three) or creative entrepreneurs (max three) do you admire?

There are so many talented bloggers out there, my favorites have to be:

Karianne from Thistlewood Farms, because she’s so funny and clever.

Donna from Funky Junk, because she can make anything old into something beautiful.

Rhee from Pioneer Woman, because my family loves all her recipes.
What’s your favorite quote?

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way–things I had no words for.” Georgia O’Keeffe
