Today the sun was shining, bright and beautiful. We actually made up to 37 degrees, after months of subzero temperatures it felt sooooooo good!
I am now confident that winter won’t last forever. It just seems like it.
The snow even melted enough so I could see the edge of our garden beds. A reminder that they are there, and that the growing season will arrive soon.
But, for now I have to be content with my indoor blossoms.
Remember my post on Growing Amaryllis in Water? I just wanted to let you know how it all turned out.
The double blossom Amaryllis is simply beautiful. I keep it by in the window beside my bed.
I have loved how elegant it looks in the glass vase. And the best part is….I don’t have to water them. I can be rather forgetful at times.
I will definitely grow more of them next year.
I wasn’t sure how well the vase would balance the weight of the heavy flowers. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t seem to cause a problem until both flowers were open and the leaves began to grow in at the base of the bulb.
As the bulb begins to age, it shrinks a bit and became loose in the jar. In the end I had to prop it up on the wall, but it was very sturdy for a long time while it was opening. Quite a feat considering it is rather tall.
The other variety I grew was a miniature one. It stands only about a foot tall. I am please to say that it hasn’t had any trouble balancing the weight of the flowers. All four of them have been opening at once.
I am smitten.
Smitten with the garden bug.
Smitten with the coming of spring.
