How to Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies

Have you ever tried to make your own cleaning supplies? We have found that we are very allergic to commercial cleaners. They make our noses stuffy, we sneeze, our eyes water and we even get rashes at times from coming in contact with them. It’s shocking how these everyday chemicals can affect our health without us even realizing it. We have never been healthier since we did away with all the chemical cleaners in our home. Here are my top three favorite homemade cleaning recipes.

First of all, my cleaning kit has a pair of rubber gloves, several spray bottles, a microfiber dusting cloth, microfiber towels, and some essential oils in it. I keep all these items in a handy plastic tote to carry from room to room as I am cleaning. Here are a few other great ideas for cleaning just about anything with simple ingredients! How to Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies with Natural Ingredients |Designers Sweet Spot|

1. All Purpose Cleaner

1/2 tsp. Baking Soda

2 tsp. Borax

1 tsp. Dish soap such as Dawn Dishwashing Liquid

Lemon or Orange Essential Oil

2 cups hot water

Mix all ingredients in a large bucket. Use with a sponge, microfiber towel or mop. This mild solution is great for washing floors, walls and general cleaning. If you prefer a scented batch, add a few drops of lemon or orange essential oil to the batch. You can purchase Borax in the laundry isle at the grocery store or through my affiliate link here.

2. Heavy Duty Floor Cleaner Solution

2 tsp. Baking Soda

1 tsp. Unscented HE Laundry Detergent

2 tsp. powdered Oxy-Clean Brand Stain Remover

4 cups hot water

Non-Abraisive Cleaning Scouring Pads

Mix all ingredients in a large bucket, the hotter the water the better the cleaning power is with this recipe. For really stubborn dirt, apply to soiled area with a cloth or sponge and let sit for 5 minutes. Finally, use a non-abrasive Scotch Brite scouring pad for scrubbing the dirt away, or even a putty knife to scrape up unwanted material. Repeat as needed to clean the surface entirely.

In our home with 4 boys, we often have cleaning problems that are larger than the average family. I am pleased to say that this recipe is my go to fix for BIG BOY DIRT PROBLEMS. Made with extra heavy duty stuff to clean the heavy duty crud. This also works great on dirty kitchen cabinets and greasy range hoods.

3.General Spray Cleaner

1 quart rubbing alcohol

1 cup ammonia or lemon scented ammonia

1 tsp. dish washing liquid

3 cups water

I keep a bottle of this spray solution in each bathroom for quick touch ups. In addition, it also works great for tasks in the kitchen such as greasy stoves and counter tops (do not use on stone or granite), hand rails, tile and painted woodwork.
